This YES to Homes! (YTH) legislation is back this year, 2026, for its 3rd time. It's bi-partisan and requires no funding. It's a structural change to Zoning Laws throughout the State that would allow for more homes to be built where people need them. Below are the Reasons why The Real Estate Collaborative (REC) supports the legislation.

// The Saint Paul Area Association of Realtors, as well as The Minnesota Realtors, have been asked to support this legislation, but so far have declined. If you are a Realtor, who supports the building of more housing, you may want to ask your Association representatives why they do not support this legislation. //

  • 🏠 Minnesotans need more homes they can afford, and that won’t happen unless we make it easier to build them. Let lawmakers know that we need action now.

  • 🌳☀️ Land use policy is climate policy. More homes means shorter commutes, more walkable neighborhoods, less traffic, and lower environmental impact. Let the Minnesota legislature know we need more infill housing.

  • 📝🏗️ A patchwork of local laws and overregulation doesn’t make sense for builders, families, or our state. Let the legislature know that Minnesota needs statewide standards to bring certainty to builders and reduce costs for families.

  • 🤝 Lending a hand is part of what makes Minnesota strong. No matter what we look like, or where we’re from, we all need a home we can afford so we can be there for each other. Let the legislature know that we need action NOW.

  • 🏠 Minnesotans deserve housing choices that meet their needs. Whether it’s allowing young people to move back to the communities they grew up in, or helping older adults downsize into a smaller home in the towns where they’ve lived for decades.

  • When families can’t find a home they can afford, they look to other states. Minnesota loses workers, customers, and community leaders. Break down barriers to building so families can stay and thrive here.

  • More red tape = fewer homes. Fewer homes = fewer homeowners. That hurts families and Minnesota’s economy. We can make it easier to build the homes Minnesotans can afford.

  • Employers need workers. Workers need homes they can afford near jobs. Minnesota’s housing regulations get in the way of both. Simpler statewide standards will open more paths to homeownership and keep our economy competitive.

  • Starter homes are disappearing. Overregulation pushes builders away from entry-level options that Minnesotans want. Cut red tape so young families can buy where they choose and can afford.
